I realized today that I haven't posted anything in awhile...
The school situation ended up getting worse but now it's better.
I had 42 people in my house on Thursday night, it was really fun and interesting.
Other than that, there isn't much to report, so here are a few random thoughts...
Have you ever thought about the power of a smell? I notice the way things smell. There are definitely some interesting scents out there, some are much better than others. Some of my favorites may surprise you, others not so much of a surprise...
*Bread stores--Growing up, I would go to the Hostess store with my mom to buy our bread. We would buy several loaves at the same time and then throw most of them in the big freezer in the back room. The Hostess store has lots of bread and goodies like Suzy Qs and macaroon cookies. Truthfully, I was kinda weirded out when I went to college and had to buy bread from the grocery store.
*Motor oil and grease--I didn't realize how much I loved the smell of motor oil and grease until I was at work with my grandpa one day and he wanted me to take a chainsaw home to my parents so he put it by my chair so I wouldn't forget it. The rest of the time at work, I kept smelling something that I recognized and thought was good, I realized it was the chainsaw. The connection there is that my grandpa works on small engines so he usually smells like chainsaws and lawn mowers so their smell reminds me of him.
*Books--Books just smell good. In starting a new book, I generally pause and take a whiff while reading...my students think I'm odd sometimes, but some of them understand. I have to admit that I have read books that do not smell good in any way, it usually takes away from my reading experience.
*Home Depot--It has lumber.
Smells are interesting. There are scents that immediately bring to mind people, places, and situations. I would be sad if I couldn't smell things any more.

I think the next time, we should shoot for 50 people in our apartment.
That's a lot of people!! I totally understand the smell thing. I have a friend from Missoula who is like the grandma version of you.... I don't know if I've told you about her but she was in the YW presidency with me adn I loved her b/c she was sooo much like you in so many ways only much older... anyway, she can't smell anything unless it is INSANELY strong smelling and even then she's not sure if she's really smelling it. She got sick a few years back and it messed up her senses. It was sooo sad every time we'd talk about smelling something nice, she'd never understand :( So sad.
