Annual Weird Tan Lines
Every year I always end up with some weird tan lines mostly due to our 6th grade track meet. This year it is due to the 6th grade kickball tournament: a stripe across the top of both feet. I ref at least one game a day for the last two or three weeks of school. My pants apparently covered most of my foot, but didn't get all of it.

Since I'm talking about feet...yesterday, as I was walking into my school, I looked down and saw this:

It's a good thing I had also brought my running shoes to change into for our kickball game teachers vs. students.

School is Out!
Today was the last day of school. It sure feels nice to be done. This week has been pretty fun but now I am tired.
Yesterday was our kickball game 6th grade teachers vs students. We won...again. This year we decided to play 6 innings, one for each of the kickball teams we had for the student tournament. We were really tired after the 3rd inning but we kept playing. Basically it would go something like this: I kick, I get to 1st (sometimes 2nd), Adam kicks, I get to at least 2nd sometimes 3rd, Garrett kicks, I HAVE to get home no matter if I'm on 2nd or 3rd because I then have to kick again since there are only 3 of us versus 81 of them, but only 13 or 14 at a time. There was a time in the game where Adam was on 3rd, Garrett was on 1st, I was kicking but I popped it up and they caught it so I was out. It was then Adam's turn but he was on 3rd, I thought I would get a break from running but realized I had to go run for Adam so he could kick. He got me home and I figured I could rest now as it was Garrett's turn but he was now on 2nd so I had to go run for him which meant I had to get home from 2nd because my turn to kick was next. At one point, I completely biffed it while coming into home. Since I was wearing shorts, I grass stained my skin. I tried to take some pictures of my battle wounds, but they weren't dark enough. Right now my leg is starting to turn a darker shade of brown which may eventually turn purple. I just laugh about it, I think it's hilarious. I am so tired and sore, but I had a lot of fun! The final score was 40 to 38, it would have been higher on our side except we decided to not take out last turn up "at bat" since we had already won.

I got some flowers today. Today was our graduation from 6th grade. It was my turn to be the main speaker to welcome everyone and get things rolling so that means it was also my turn to get emotional. It's a lot easier when you can just sit back and watch your co-workers do it and just agree with them. I wasn't a very eloquent speaker and I used the word "really" a lot, but I hope I got my point across. Luckily, I didn't need any Kleenex, but it was pretty close. The flowers were from one of my students, one that was quite the handful, but those always end up tugging at your heart the most when it's time to say goodbye. I almost started crying because he almost started crying when everything was over. It makes me believe that I must be doing something right especially since this is the boy that at one point was yelling at the top of his lungs at me from across the room as I sent him to the office, "WHO SAID I WANTED TO BE IN YOUR CLASS ANYWAY!" So why is it that the only flowers I ever get come from 12-year-old boys?

Substance
I realized that I really haven't posted any substance for two months now...that's just how I roll.
There are only 3 1/2 school days left until I can relax a little, but just a little. This last week has been very tiring and I am ready for a little bit of a break. Tuesday was the 6th grade track meet for school. We had everything planned out and everyone was excited to go. That morning, the weather was very iffy. The two neighboring cities canceled their meets before they even started, but not out city, we're no pansies! We started off with the 800 m, it went great. We started the girls in the 100m, it started to rain, it started to really rain. Kids were huddled under umbrellas and the one awning we had for our large group. The teachers were dry, except for our shoes as they got dripped on. We finally decided it was a little much and called the buses to come get us after only being there for an hour or so. While we waited, we invited any students that wanted to try the 100 to participate and then we were directed over to the high school to line the halls while we waited for our bus. We eventually wound up at our school just before lunch started when we weren't planning on being back for at least another 2 hours. Almost half of our students were checked out and taken home by parents so we had no plans for the rest of the day and half of our students so we really couldn't do anything academic without repeating it the next day for those who missed it. We ended up just hanging out in one classroom and watched 1 1/2 movies.
Today we went to the track meet again. The only problem is that with rescheduling it for so soon, the school cafeterias wouldn't have enough time to put together sack lunches for an all day trip, so we had to be back at the schools in time to go eat lunch in the cafeteria. We had to run the girls 100m at the same time as the boys, one on each side of the track (over 40 heats takes quite awhile). Adam and Garrett were needed to help line the boys up for their races so I was in charge of monitoring our classes. It wasn't too bad as most of the group was running in an event most of the time. My main job was to shout and cheer for all of our students as they ran by, needless to say, reading out loud to my class later in the day turned out to be a very slight challenge. We were done and back at the school by 12:05. We found our classrooms had been TPed by our co-workers (retribution from something we did on Wednesday). After lunch, we played kickball. We have a tournament going and the first set of games today were quite interesting.
We met our new co-worker a few weeks ago, her name is Alece. She seems very nice and I'm looking forward to getting to know her. An interesting fact about Adam, Garrett and I is that we are all 3 years apart. Even more interesting is that we found out that Alece also fits into this pattern quite well, not only in being 3 years apart but also that her birth month is the same as Garrett's while Adam and I share a birth month as well. Our principal did a good job picking this one out :)
