I realized that I really haven't posted any substance for two months now...that's just how I roll.
There are only 3 1/2 school days left until I can relax a little, but just a little. This last week has been very tiring and I am ready for a little bit of a break. Tuesday was the 6th grade track meet for school. We had everything planned out and everyone was excited to go. That morning, the weather was very iffy. The two neighboring cities canceled their meets before they even started, but not out city, we're no pansies! We started off with the 800 m, it went great. We started the girls in the 100m, it started to rain, it started to really rain. Kids were huddled under umbrellas and the one awning we had for our large group. The teachers were dry, except for our shoes as they got dripped on. We finally decided it was a little much and called the buses to come get us after only being there for an hour or so. While we waited, we invited any students that wanted to try the 100 to participate and then we were directed over to the high school to line the halls while we waited for our bus. We eventually wound up at our school just before lunch started when we weren't planning on being back for at least another 2 hours. Almost half of our students were checked out and taken home by parents so we had no plans for the rest of the day and half of our students so we really couldn't do anything academic without repeating it the next day for those who missed it. We ended up just hanging out in one classroom and watched 1 1/2 movies.
Today we went to the track meet again. The only problem is that with rescheduling it for so soon, the school cafeterias wouldn't have enough time to put together sack lunches for an all day trip, so we had to be back at the schools in time to go eat lunch in the cafeteria. We had to run the girls 100m at the same time as the boys, one on each side of the track (over 40 heats takes quite awhile). Adam and Garrett were needed to help line the boys up for their races so I was in charge of monitoring our classes. It wasn't too bad as most of the group was running in an event most of the time. My main job was to shout and cheer for all of our students as they ran by, needless to say, reading out loud to my class later in the day turned out to be a very slight challenge. We were done and back at the school by 12:05. We found our classrooms had been TPed by our co-workers (retribution from something we did on Wednesday). After lunch, we played kickball. We have a tournament going and the first set of games today were quite interesting.
We met our new co-worker a few weeks ago, her name is Alece. She seems very nice and I'm looking forward to getting to know her. An interesting fact about Adam, Garrett and I is that we are all 3 years apart. Even more interesting is that we found out that Alece also fits into this pattern quite well, not only in being 3 years apart but also that her birth month is the same as Garrett's while Adam and I share a birth month as well. Our principal did a good job picking this one out :)
