Running and Heat Exhaustion
Today was the 6th grade track meet! It was a beautiful day and a good time was had by most. The last two years we went to the track meet, it was cold and we were rained on. Today, was definitely not cold or rainy. Today was the hottest day so far this year and very sunny. Two of our students may have been suffering from slight heat exhaustion and were sent home after they threw up. I wore shorts and sandals and was glad I did. I eventually changed into socks and shoes to keep my feet from burning and to get ready to run myself. This year, the district decided to have a teacher race in the middle as they were tallying the students' times. With 6th grade, we had enough to have both a men's and women's heat. I was told that I took second place in my heat. My principal was very surprised and even told me that I should have won since I had to take so many more steps than the other teachers running. My students were excited and loved seeing me run. I had a lot of comments on how fast I was even from some of their parents. No weird sunburns this year, I'm just really tired from sitting in the sun all day and cheering for all of my kiddos.
