Car Troubles Part 3

I finally have my car back!  I wasn't expecting to have it back until next week, but I'm not complaining at all.  It was pretty crazy trying to get to work and back and I have some awesome friends who were super willing and able to help me out, but it's so much nicer to have my own car again.

Let me educate you on lifters with a few pictures:

This is what a lifter is and what it's supposed to look like (minus a few scratches).  A lifter lifts the cam shaft.

This is what one of the lifters in my car looked like.  This is the culprit.  You see, a cam shaft went through this lifter.  They're not supposed to do that.  The cam shaft was damaged and that was the expensive part.

So, you can see by comparison, that this was a bad thing.  The mechanic said he's never seen anything like this before.  Maybe if I didn't have any oil in my car or maybe if the timing belt was destroyed, but both of those things did not happen.  Hence, I am buying a new car.
